Brief biography of Russ Johnson
Trumpeter
Russ Johnson is fast becoming one of the most
sought after performers in the New York "downtown" music
scene. In addition to leading his own groups, and co-leading The
Other Quartet, Russ has performed and/or recorded with a long list of
musical
heavyweights including; Lee Konitz, Steve Swallow, Kenny Wheeler, Bill
Frisell, Joe Lovano, Richie Beirach, Mark Ribot, David Liebman, Joe Maneri,
The Jazz Passengers, Elvis Costello, Debbie Harry, Curtis Fowlkes, Roy
Nathanson, Lou Reed, Laurie
Anderson, Tony Malaby, and Mat Maneri.
His debut recording as a leader, Save Big, is on OmniTone. He is also heard on two other OmniTone recordings, One Block from Planet Earth by Mick Rossi and Line Zero by Christof Knoche, as well as on a duo recording with Mick Rossi of improvisations on ToneScience, New Math.
